3 años de adicción al diseño: Khodi Feiz

Khodi Feiz es una gran influencia en mi formación como diseñador. Mi tiempo en su estudio de diseño Feiz Design de Amsterdam es una de las mejores experiencias que he tenido en mi vida, no solo por los proyectos en los que estuve involucrado, también por las increíbles personas con las que conviví en este tiempo. De Khodi aprendí tanto, pero lo que más me marco fue su sensibilidad casi artística para abstraer elementos de lo que nos rodea para generar conceptos, y su habilidad para dirigir a un equipo de trabajo en el desarrollo de estas ideas para convertirlas en productos. Su inspiración la obtiene de tres cosas: claridad, concepto y contexto. Bajo estas 3 normas ha desarrollado productos exitosos para compañías como Nokia, Alessi, Samsung, Herman Miller, Geiger, Offect, Cappellini y Council. Me da mucho gusto poder compartir con ustedes las respuestas de mi admirable ex jefe, mentor y gran amigo Khodi Feiz.

What changes have you noticed in the design world and business in the last 3 years?

I feel, design just like a toddler is beginning to learn to walk and talk. It feels like we are somewhat over the loud and brash shouts and screams which were hard to understand and solely for the purpose of attracting attention. More and more I see projects with an understandable voice and a clarity of purpose. Just like everything which grows up, design too is going through these transformations.

Tell us about your last 3 years – Anything you would you like to share?

After celebrating 13 years of our studio this past March, I can honestly say that the past three years have been most challenging. I am proud of the fact that what we had set out as a vision is more and more becoming a reality. My dream has always been in creatively contributing to a multitude of realms within design. To be able to work in diverse yet complimentary fields such as Furniture and Electronics and have them feed and inspire each other. It’s slowly working!

Gives us 3 things to look out for the next 3 years:

1. Designers who sell their soul for fame and fortune are becoming easier to spot and I see that companies are also slowly understanding this. What works is Great Design not necessarily famous designers. So, look out for Phoney’s!

2. Look out for holistic projects which create benefit and are sensitive to the user, client and planet. These projects will rule!

3. Look out for a slowly emerging socio/economic infrastructure which look at the planet as a whole. Wow, what a dream, when we all see this planet as one entity, as a whole!
